Downloads and Updates

Hello! September was a whirlwind month and I’ve fallen short of posting weekly on this blog. Figure this would be a good time to do a “hodgepodge” post.

  1. Music Poll- in case you missed it, my previous post highlights the theme music of each network’s NFL music. I’ll leave this poll open for another week before revealing the results. Be sure to vote on your favorite piece of music!

2. Downloads for Coffee Drinkers- at the top of this site, I have a link to a Downloads page. I intend to create more zines in the future. For now I have one zine. BUT about a year ago I created a coffee themed activity book. This is also available on the downloads page. Feel free to print it out so you always have an “on the go” activity!

3. Photo for your thoughts.

One of the reasons I’ve been quieter than usual is I’ve been traveling every couple of weeks during this last stretch of summer (including a jaunt to San Diego this past weekend).  The first place I went was NYC for the first time ever! It was an amazing experience. Below is a photo I took from the top of the Empire State Building.

I have another post on Instagram of the Wanamaker Building in downtown Philadelphia. Feel free to check it out.

That’s all for now! What have all of you been up to these past few weeks?

Smurfing Good TV

Daily writing prompt
What TV shows did you watch as a kid?

As a kid of the 80’s, Saturday morning cartoons were it. Living out west where everything seems to air early, the ONE cartoon show I woke up early every Saturday to see – I’m talking like 5-6am depending on the time of year- was THE SMURFS!

My attempt at making some type of 80s design of a Smurf moving through dimensions.

The allure of the Smurfs for me #1 was the humor. The way “smurf” was used numerous ways as a verb. Jokey Smurf and his exploding presents. For some reason I thought it was the funniest thing ever. #2 was the overall look- the bright colors of the mushroom capped world of the Smurfs drew me in. #3 was the adventures these little blue guys went on each episode- usually to defeat Gargamel.

The world of the Smurfs fasicnated me and entertained me. I’d also make a case that the Smurfs are responsible for my addiction appreciation of coffee. Given that the show aired so early on Saturdays, as soon as I was old enough to reach the coffee maker on the counter, I learned out how brew a pot of coffee and pour myself a cup. There was something magical about sitting at the glow of the TV when it was still dark outside on Saturday mornings sipping on an hot cup of coffee whilst the incessant Smurf chant of the Smurfs theme song LAH- LAH, LA LAH LA LAAAH, LAH LAH LAH LAAAH LA floated out of the TV.

Those were good times.

Notes to My Future Self

What are you most worried about for the future?

I’m an analyst, so… Everything?

Too broad?

Ok let me think of specifics.

1. I still don’t know the correct answer to the riddle “how many chucks would a woodchuck chuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood” and I fear I will never know the answer. Seems like I could just add up the number of times the word “chuck” appears but that seems too obvious.

2. That I’ll turn into some crazy person who decides not to retire. I’ve dreamt of retirement since I was a girl (yeah you read that right) so not retiring would shake up the core of my identity.

3. That I’ll develop some weird health condition that prevents me from drinking coffee.  Would be almost as devastating as item 2 above if not more so.

4. That I’ll never make time to learn underwater basket weaving.

5. That the Friday/Saturday morning kids show Xploration Earth is right and we’ll all be eating crickets as our main source of protein by the year 2050.

Phew now that I got that out of my system, what are you all worried about? Can’t be nearly as bad as my list.
